Day 2 - The Devil's Anvil
Update: left camp around 7:45am... arrived at Hauser Creek around 11:00am... took long break and 2 hour nap... started climbing what I'm calling the Devil's Anvil around 2:00pm... made it to Lake Morena County Park / Campground around 6:00pm... very exhausted but feeling at least a little refreshed after a well-earned shower at the campground.
Long day with super challenging afternoon climb out of Hauser Creek... 1,000ft elevation gain in 2 miles is steep, but what killed was the hot sun baking this exposed and rocky mountainside all day... the southern exposure and the valley wall configuration made the temperature feel in the mid 90's.
Yesterday's Pre-post guessing at what this day might entail:
The weather today should be slightly cooler than yesterday, making for another great hiking day.
Ann & Linda appear to have camped at mile 8.1 last night which means the trail from there will be mostly dry for the next 7 miles until they reach Hauser Creek at mile 15.4. There they should find a "sweet little campsite under a Manzanita tree with room for 2 tents" with the creek "flowing about 4-5 feet wide and a few inches deep" according to recent reports.
If, for some reason, they choose not to camp at Hauser Creek, the next water source is at Lake Morena County Park and Campground only about 4.5 mile further, but mostly uphill.
